The year 2001 saw the birth of a new Mega Man series with the release of the first Mega Man Battle Network game. Set in a near-future world where advanced network technology has become the norm, the game captured the hearts of young children as they embarked on an adventure alongside the protagonist. With engaging gameplay that combined elements of card battles and action games, this unique data action RPG spawned a highly successful series.
The comics and cartoons that accompanied them helped cement the series´ legacy.It is the year 200X. The rapid growth of Internet technology has given rise to the networked society. People carry PETs, mobile devices equipped with sensitive programs called NetNavis, which they use to enjoy the many advantages that the Internet offers.
But although the Internet has improved their way of life, it has also brought with it new outlets for cybercrime. The protagonist, Lan Hikari, and his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, must work together to solve numerous incidents.
